Even if journalists were kings without a crown, the hammer and sickle courts are still in session behind the screen. http://www.globalvoicesonline.org/2007/10/16/ch...

我开始认为是整个这个短语hammer and sickle courts are still in session behind the screen是锤镰听政的意思。

  1. (2) screen, cover, covert, concealment — (a covering that serves to conceal or shelter something; “they crouched behind the screen”; “under cover of darkness”)

The noun hammer and sickle has 1 sense (no senses from tagged texts)

  1. hammer and sickle — (the emblem on the flag of the Soviet Union)

non-abelian money; wealth as matrix :)

non-abelian money; wealth as matrix :)

Electronic implementation of non-abelian money would be a snap. The social implementation might be a bit tougher, however – convincing people that their net wealth should be a matrix would be a tough sell, at least initially. Still, if non-abelian money changed some key results from economics, then in some niches it may be advantageous to make the switch, and possible to convince people that this is a good idea. http://michaelnielsen.org/blog/?p=269

abelian http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abelian_group http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-Abelian

What would happen if we replaced the current monetary system, which is based on an abelian group [*] by a non-abelian currency system?

[*] If someone gives you x dollars, then y dollars, the result is the same as if you were given y dollars first, then x.

(It should, of course, be noted that there are in practice already many effects which make money act in a somewhat non-abelian fashion, e.g., inflation.

Inflation isn’t non-abelian value of money, it’s time-variant value of money.

Negative money has all kinds of cool and interesting properties. My favourites among those Ben suggested were these: (1) burglars might break into your house, and leave some cash; and (2) people would have much less incentive to counterfeit.

pastry, bulk, escalade, peddle, string out, suburban

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

I’m trying to ride my new bike to as many places as possible. Most days this involves riding past Booda Beans. It’s everything you would expect from a neighborhood coffee-shop-that-isn’t-Starbucks, offering coffee in various combinations of size, temperature, and artificial flavor. Plus pastries and bulk candy. On the dark side, the owner drives an Escalade and watches Fox News all day, while peddling caffeine and sugar to strung-out suburbanites. On the bright side, they offer free wireless.

Pastry is the name given to various kinds of dough made from ingredients such as flour, butter, shortening, baking powder or eggs. … en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pastries

bulk + majority: the property resulting from being or relating to the greater in number of two parts; the main part; “the majority of his customers … + stick out or up; “The parcel bulked in the sack” + the property of something that is great in magnitude; “it is cheaper to buy it in bulk”; “he received a mass of correspondence”; “the volume of exports” + bulge: cause to bulge or swell outwards + the property possessed by a large mass wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn

escalade The Cadillac Escalade is a full-size luxury sport utility vehicle sold by the General Motors luxury brand, Cadillac. … en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cadillac_Escalade

suburban relating to or characteristic of or situated in suburbs; “suburban population” wordnet.princeto n.edu/perl/webwn

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

After all, the US government still holds the pink slip on the “international” space station, and the last thing they need floating through their overstretched, little heads is the image of zero-G Marxism study sessions. http://news.imagethief.com/blogs/china/archive/...

zero-g + Weightlessness is the experience (by people and objects) during free-fall, of having no apparent weight. … + en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zero-g

大白兔奶糖的糖纸的设计是”a masterpiece of psychedelic candy packaging design,

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

One of China’s under-appreciated pleasures is the enamel-stripping joy of a chewy White Rabbit Milk Candy. I’m not the first to be smitten, as a quick Googling will reveal. White Rabbit even has a Wikipedia entry http://news.imagethief.com/blogs/china/archive/...

后面作者写了一些这个糖纸的设计为什么是”a masterpiece of psychedelic candy packaging design, “。 :)

[funny] where did the f in golf go?

Comment by Dog tucker 2007-10-05 14:28:16

You can always buy a GOL if you get confused. F knows where the F went!!

Comment by Ashley 2007-10-05 15:38:22

The Gol was for the three developing markets, India, Brazil, and China.

I guess to cut down on costs they knocked the back doors off and made the car shorter. The F must have been knocked off to save on cost.

http://www.chinacartimes.com/2007/10/03/faw-upd... I love the affordable gol~ but it’s not allowed to be sold in beijing because the its emission doesn’t qualified. Not clean enough.
